Dan Brown wrote fiction. A lot of writers do. It should be taken as fiction, and not offensive. In several notable movies, books, and videogames, America has put some heat on Russia, as well as other countries. You don’t see the other countries complain. They do something about it, or at least be the “bigger man” and not retaliate towards a senseless notion. Think about that, Philippine Government.Complaining is a sign of immaturity, it shows that the person (who complains) is lazy, and simply wants things changed to suit his/her preferences. Doing something about what a person dislikes is more mature, simply because that person becomes the change he/she wants to see. I have learned that the hard way myself. Think about that, Mr. MMDA Chairman.
If the Philippines does not want an image of negativity to be portrayed, ever, then MMDA better start cleaning up the rest of the country, because I’m sure that a lot of other novels (several of them, I have in my collection of books) have mentioned the Philippines as a rather shabby place. Again, do not complain. Do something about it. Think about that, Filipino populace.
We can’t all be good guys forever; someone has to be the bad guy for the greater good. I hope Dan Brown is laughing at the Philippine people who are hurt over his novel. I hope he laughs heartily, because I know that I am a Filipino and I will be laughing heartily with him. For this, I write a limerick:
I write this so they’d understand,
I curse to not make this so bland,
You get what you give, and they gave him no rib.
So there’s nothing for them to demand.
A book is a true work of fiction,
But for people with quite little diction,
They’d rally and fuss, and sometimes they cuss,
Cause’ they feel that they’re being picked on.
The truth is that they are such assholes,
Who complain about being called assholes,
They’d rally and fuss, and sometimes they cuss,
‘Cause they do what’s expected of assholes.
I write this because I’m afraid,
For a country that’s been so depraved.
With leaders like shit, and a faith that sucks dick,
We’re the prostitute that never gets paid.
I know that my limerick sucks,
For many who do give a fuck.
Wait till you see, there’s nothing wrong with me.
Even you’ll be afraid to cluck.
A good man had written a rhyme,
It hurts your pride, even mine.
I come from a place, that even I can disgrace,
The proud country that’s dragging behind.
A good man had written a book,
The Filipino people it shook,
I hope that with me, he is smiling with glee.
For the offenses that everyone took.
* ALL COMMENTS ARE NOT MEANT TO INSULT, THEY ARE JUST COMMENTS.
I remember the good ol’ days where cigarettes were cheap,
I could smoke a set of sticks, a pack a day, a week,
I could keep drinking from those bottles till it made me weak,
Stick after bottle was good, but now, I have to speak.
Why DID the government go and tax our vice?
Is it because they want people to be healthy, clean and nice?
Is it cause they want people to spend less money and be wise?
Nah, I think it’s cause they just want to earn off of the public’s demise.
If they wanted us all to quit, they would’ve stopped selling this sh*t,
They would’ve stopped selling cigarettes to both adults and kids,
They would’ve banned every single Marlboro stick,
But that’s not good for their income because tobacco is BIG.
If they wanted us all to quit, they would’ve stopped selling the juice,
No more drunken driving cases where people file lawsuits,
No more bottles, no more cans of fermented roots,
No more alcohol content having people make loot.
It’s tax, and it’s for revenue to make the country last,
But instead it helps them do better when they reel in all the cash,
To spend more consumer money when sprucing up their stash,
And they laugh with all they get from the bottles and ash.
They say everyone’s taxed so it isn’t unfair,
But with the amount that they steal, they really just couldn’t care.
They can afford it everyday and they won’t even share,
Hell, they go to work smoking, drunk, and unprepared.
So raise a finger drinkers, smokers to another government scam,
Taking away the simple things is just a part of their plans,
And when we think that we have everything at the tip of our hand,
They go and lie every elections about a promised land.

As some of you may know, I have been questioned on my article by a number of people, from both UPLB and outside sources, and I wish I could elaborate further on the replies of others without stirring up a rather large argument, however, I fear that if I do not I will bring about a world of trouble for my article’s credibility. I’d rather not cause a riot, but here goes: (*Before I begin: Please do not take this personally, again this is my view, and this is for the Dog Feed. In no way do I wish to harm reputations or cause a stir, I just want to show my point. Thanks.)
The point that I made earlier still stands even though there are those who are supposed to be good at heart. With the shit that I said in my last article, I am entirely aware that not everyone is the same. I am not stupid, but take a look around, the public isn’t either. They know that I generalized and they know in their hearts that there are more than “1 in 3 candidates” (quoted from a current standing official in the UPLB Student Council) who actually want to do something, but what they do is what counts. However, again, if you look at it through public eyes, the interest that the voting population would sustain would probably be just until they finish the free food given to them. They don’t really care that you say you are different. You can fuck with their wordplay until they bleed letters from their ears, but it won’t really matter. They care that you show your point, not just stand and verbally defend. If you wanted to do so, prove me wrong with your actions while you still can. That’s what people care about. They care if they see you go outside and take a piss on someone’s deserving face, but they do not care if you talk and talk for hours on a podium. For a shitload, actions speak louder than words. (Not that I care, I’m just writing the Dog Feed for fun.) The problem is: every one of these people there who try to defend themselves against a vague article on student politics that was directed at the candidates, are generally candidates. With just that, you’ve already sold yourself to the branding machine.
Now to further elaborate on why my point still stands; even those that are good at heart try to shield themselves from the inevitable questioning that will ravage their image like a starving tiger seeing a lonely antelope on a vast plain. Now, by defending yourselves, you’re just proving my point. You guys didn’t have to come out and say that you were innocents to the fuckery that was said in the other article. If you didn’t then you knew yourselves that you were innocent and that you did a pretty damn good job. However, since you did, it just shows that you guys are trying to protect your image, without me actually accusing you of the fuckery in particular. You try to defend your comrades as well, hence shoving my point twice as far up reality’s ass. If you wanted, you could’ve sent the same message to me alone, but instead, you guys wished to come out and say it here in the open. It’s the image that counts in politics. See? Comparing this to a playground situation, let’s say that one asshole kid wants to be leader, and then towards the end of the day in the playground, one of the other kids decides to try and shove a mental dildo up his cocky ass by saying that all the kids who have been leaders are the same. Note that he does not fuck about by saying that the leader as of now is the redundant bastard. So now this leader kid replies that no, I am different and nicer, which is generally what the other bastard leaders did. See the point? To put it plain: Defending yourselves verbally ain’t gonna do shit. Prove me wrong by acting on it, and then the public will get at you. I’m giving you a free pass to use my article to boost your image, and yet you guys choose to tank me on this instead of making the public see you for yourself.
I am just here to speak and speak and speak. I’ve built an image so that people around the internet forums respect my ideas and such. Now I’ve given you the chance to use my article as a springing step. Hell, I even cursed a lot in the article, making this shit almost like trash. You could’ve bought yourself an eternity of worship by proving me wrong with this and that. Instead, you tried to attack a more simplistic concept, the concept that everyone is different and that you yourselves are innocent to the accused topic (which was pointed at the general direction of the candidates [not naming names] and not the current running officials). This just proves my point that the campaign in about image, and that majority of the people wouldn’t care or even read this goddamn reply. Good day.

So we get a couple of pretty candidates to run for Student Council Office…
I suggest that all political parties just talk, and not advertise themselves, or go out to shake hands with passersby, telling them to vote for you. Earlier today I received handshakes from my friends who were members of the Buklod (UPLB Political) party as I was going about my schoolwork. On most days they would give a friendly wave or smile, and we walk past each other as if we each had our own distant world to conquer. I’m not saying I do not appreciate it, nor am I saying that I’d like to ruin friendships, but let’s step back a bit. (I’ve voted for Buklod before.)
We are Students, not the average junkies or squatters and bums who roam the streets poor as fuck. We’re not cavemen either, nor are we people whose minds can easily be fucked with. We can think. We can speak. Not to brag, but we do this better than a shitload out there. Now here’s the point I’m trying to make. Let’s not be gullible, nor let us be swayed by the simplicity of free food and other trinkets. Look and listen to the candidates, but never do it one at a time.
You see, language is like a whore. It can take many positions to satisfy different people. Pleasing in good ways for some, bad ways for others. That can’t be helped. Some people just won’t like the choice of words of this specific candidate. No, I’m not telling you to be open minded about the words. As I’ve said, words can be shape-shifted to mean this and that at the same time to different people. Now, if we mix the words with the body language. Disregard the fear and the shyness, and you can see who really means what they’re saying, and whose guts are in the right place. Watch your candidates, see if they feed that lonesome dog near LB Square. Look at your candidate when he/she is not campaigning and listen twice as clear then. Siphon the bullshit and you’ll get what’s what of the candidate.
Politics (election campaigns in particular) should not be so trivial. It should be gut. If everything was trivial, then we might as well have hired robots to finish the job for us, since we humans cannot be trivial 100% of the time. Nor can we manage to be relative for others while maintaining triviality. The essence of election campaigns is to win the public over. Now in what way do I suggest people go about it. I suggest people dispense with the bullshit, dispense with the plans and forms and structures and fucks. I suggest they stand on that podium, and talk about themselves. The best judge of character would be the reaction among friends and family, classmates and teachers. If people would just shut the fuck up for a while and talk like a regular person, and not like a candidate, then people would be able to choose.
It’s not the problem of the voters, who vote for the candidate of their choice, it’s the problem of the candidates. They lie, give false smiles, shake hands with no meaning to it, and do all sorts of fucked up things that end up making others see an obvious plastic mask distorting what was once a friend. Fuck. Right? Now I challenge the candidates, when they go about school, not to wear their Candidacy ID’s, not to wear the shirt of the party they represent, and not to wear that mental mask. I challenge them to go out for one day, and campaign to the people like the people. Talk and walk, cut classes, rush with people, eat with people (don’t buy them food), and just look at the lives of your voters and see what is really fucked and what is really trivial.
I may not be a candidate, and I doubt I should ever be one, nor do I have a feeling I want to, but I think that this is how a candidate should go about his/her campaign. I’m just your average insane bastard walking among you. Good night.

It has come to my attention that the TV show called “Budoy” on a local channel here in the Philippines called ABS-CBN (no correlation to CBN whatsoever, as of my knowledge), has garnered a great deal of popularity. From regular conversations, to watching the show every night it is available, to even vandalizing the tables of my University’s (University of the Philippines Los Baños) classrooms (I didn’t take the photo yet) with the astoundingly simple-yet-pleasing logo of the show (as seen in the opening photo for this article). Most talk that floats around where I study and in my circles of friends regarding this, are commonly reduced to mimicking the lead character, by the name of Budoy, when it comes to his linguistic wordplay. Now, I believe that there is a fine line between comedy or satire, and the actual thing that the satiric role suggests to criticize. The way I see it, people have been dancing around this as if it were a ballet performance. (Think Giselle, or any other ballet play, where they jump across the floorboards, tiptoeing as if it were actually beneficial to them to subject their toes to such harsh conditions.) This is why I have summed up 3 reasons as to why the show is rather counterproductive, in terms of the sarcastic scenario stated above. You can see the ABS-CBN Website’s page for Budoy, here.
Now before you go on telling me to watch it first, I already have (two or three times), and I still think that my reasons are legitimate. Take a read!
Reason 1: Television is a Medium for Knowledge
I personally don’t watch the show as often as I should, and almost despise the innate lack of grammar with the words he speaks. (No offense to the mentally challenged) It’s just that these things become infectious, and they are generally highly attractive to most commonplace people, thus allowing their minds to be manipulated in such a way that their grammar, instead of getting better through a very useful medium of communication, gets worse.
Television is a medium, and what do mediums do; they give off information, that’s what. If you knew how much horseshit mass media is feeding us, I doubt you’d want to shit your pants for a week. Maybe even ever again. Trying to find a needle in a haystack, substituted for truth in the lies respectively doesn’t do it justice. Trying to find that needle, in a mountain of shit; that sounds more apropos.
If the television shows provided more educationally correct shows, then we would have less of a problem with our country’s innate lack of education for the children (which will hopefully solve our “corruption problem”). Since the children “are the future”, why not give them something to work with, rather than just grabbing the money and running, resulting in the catastrophe Peter Parker achieved in Spider Man 1?
Of course with the exception of the masses “pwning” the TV stations. Unless those bastards have hooked up DOTA to their database. That would be a totally different story.
Reason 2: Media Rules The World
It is the Age of Information, and more or less, everyone’s buying in on it. Ironically, this gave birth to one of the most idiotic generations humanity has ever seen, wherein people can’t even go outside to do a little exercise coz they’re reaching a new level on Skyrim. Either that or they’re waiting for their favourite TV soap opera to arrive. Or maybe some are just furiously masturbating to Next Top Model with Tyra Banks.
The least those TV companies could do, would be to provide something educational. If they’re worried about ratings, then have all the channels carry the same intellectual background so that there will be no choice as to what stupidity the masses would prefer. They’d be forced to learn something new every time. Just think of it as Discovery Channel on every channel in your 100 station cable/satellite subscription; except with the option as to what you will learn.
It’s almost a monopoly, anyway, so why not have the TV stations come to a decision that will help the future generations learn how to speak and communicate properly so that they may not have to go through the chaos that was The Tower of Babel in the Bible. (Just a reference, I am not religious, however I do enjoy reading the scriptures of various religions.) I’m just saying we need to grow the heck up as a race, stop thinking about ourselves, and save the generation that you claim are “the future” or the “brighter tomorrow”.
Reason 3: People Are Gullible
Going back to Budoy, it is said to be a wonderfully inspirational story. Although that may be true, people should be aware that this show is not meant to be re-enacted in everyday life. They should differentiate comedy or art altogether from reality. If they cannot find a way to let the viewers know this, then it is better off that they cancel the show altogether.
If you want people to behave properly, then put proper TV shows on for everyone. Define what makes it artistic and what makes it comical, from the cold hard reality of life. People can hope and aspire to achieve a better life, but that doesn’t mean they have to do those bullshit things that happen in the movies/TV soap operas. That’s the whole reason why those poor folks keep living the way they do. They expect some “Prince Charming” or some “Wonderfully Placed Stroke of Sheer Luck” to arrive. What happens to them when it doesn’t? Nothing, and the TV stations make away with all that money.
I know it’s going to be very difficult to proceed with the aforementioned plan, but I mean, come on, at least Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men provided us with a sane interpretation of what would really happen to someone as odd as Budoy, or in the case of the book; Lenny, in the real world. (For those of you who don’t know, Lenny is shot in the head by his best friend as a form of mercy killing, since half the fucking town was out to kill the poor bastard.) If Steinbeck could do it, so can a big group of media-makers and talented people. Heck, even Forrest Gump contributed to a little bite of that reality sandwich.
Although in spite of all of this, Budoy seems to be a heart-warming show, that, even though it causes such effects on children and the future generations, one can still appreciate the art involved with the simplistic love felt by the mentally challenged. Good day!

I feel as if I were a stranger walking across a foreign land. The roads no longer provide me with any comfort. They, like the many people I once knew, have disappeared into the abyss of this battle. I cannot perceive how much has passed between me, and you. All I know is that it’s a lot. Almost too much to be known.
The road we trekked with such optimism, only ending up taking different turns. These different turns all slowly showed us the true reality of things, that our optimism was fool hardy, and that we can’t be everything we want to be. The war has boiled down into battles, small battles we have as individuals. Individuals searching for more, or yearning for the past, or in reckless abandon embrace the future. We’ve all been lost into the pool of humanity in front of us, but it’s good to know that we can still recognize the faces of our brethren.
Indeed, brother. I’ve recognized some along the way, but somehow, they remain in the same torment. The same struggles that we had gone through merely ages ago. I dared not to approach them for fear of losing my own path, yet they simply scratched their heads and stared at the ground with which they walked upon. They, and their arms at the ready, still in the combative dispute of centuries past. We trekked far, brother, and perhaps, we’ve trekked too far ahead. Too far, for we were skilled back in the day. Now, look, we sit in wonder as they slowly climb this hill, make their way through trekked grass, as we sit here, tired, making our own paths. I do hope others may follow us, yet our path is thinly woven, and the fabric of this world tears easily. Maybe that is why we stand on separate grounds, lost in the illusion of a million paths before us, yet, beyond the illusion lies the flat grass. Never trekked, or over-trekked, and I’m sure we do not know.
You speak like a wise man but are you truly sure, that the path you took is the one for all? Do we not stand still, not making progress, observing their every weary step, never lifting a finger to give them the path we have set? If we truly move forward then our distance would span the equator, and in the end we are actually closer than ever before? We speak from experience, from our travels through the high grass and the valleys, but our kin must find their own way for it is destiny for the seed to be scattered. Our path is not the smoothest, none truly are, but at the end of every road is something better or something worse. The coup d’grace of our travels, what we have been looking for, the end is not near. We have sinews on our bones, muscles on our limbs, breath in our lungs, and sense in our minds, we will keep moving forward in the hopes that someone will recognize our footsteps. I wouldn’t know if there is any hope left in my battle. In a dark featureless mangrove with breadth I do not know, I walk. You, my friend, where do you walk?
The grass around me is all but different from the grasses that I’ve trekked before. I do not know how, or in what way or why, I no longer know this grass. It’s similar, by the looks and by the texture, and the feel upon my boot. The clouds are gray here, upon this plain, and the rain will soon pour down upon here. There is no shade, and I carry no device, or means as to avert the water’s cool strike. I’ve but not an option to walk, and scour the grass, as high as my boot. Although the city, I can carve a path to, I still cannot go there. It’s too dark. The distance is short, but it’s too dark. Bleak, and lightless. Not even the streetlights have sprung energy into their bulbs. I fear this city is the future, a fruitless, and blatant mesh. I see people, walk along the road I dare not take for fear of what lay at the end. Thousands of them, following each other. Ants, though unproductive. I see some of our own regiment walk along the path. It has an attractive allure, the wealth that comes with the concrete. Yet, I dare not fall victim to the venom I believe it holds. I have but one wish; to join you, once more, that our burden may be shared. The distance is hard, though it binds us close, the poetry in our acts. I cannot help but recall the first time we’d seen the poet in one another. I, the scattered soldier, lost with a friendly fire. Do you not recall?
I recall, I recall it in vivid memory, but brother, that was so long ago in a war that was long forgotten. That stalemate where nothing further could be done but move forward as companions in travel is of the past, it’s only been a year since we parted at the junction and yet we’ve diverged so far. It is my dream too that we may reunite, it is also my dream that our venom stricken family may join us in the plains that it may be beautiful rather than fleeting. We’re at the mercy of the stars; they guide us to what destiny has in store. We wander but we know the way.
I wonder where the compass may take me with the direction of the stars. I wonder how long it will be before we can see each other again. United by our past, strengthened by our present, and with the hope of a future to behold. The days grow weary, and our muscles lose strength. The night batters us as we rest, and yet we continue. Our quest may lead us to foreign lands, to lands unforeseen. Though it’s a lovely thought to keep in my head, that we have our letters in between. I wonder how the postman sends this, so accurately, so precise. While we are lost amongst our paths, in the wilderness of life. Till’ we meet, or greet again, brother, I give you this parting note. I hope that one day we’ll be the same in our home. Still serving under our flag, under our God-sworn oath.
